They are 'Friends from the Heart'
Professor Öztekin Oto found a job in the hospital for one of the two patients he operated on. He is looking for a job for the other one. Two patients are now staying together
"HE'S NOT OUR DOCTOR, HE'S OUR FATHER"
Prof. Oto's patients Canan Serçe, Salih Derelioğlu and Recep Topçu, who were resuscitated with a male heart implant in 2000, declared themselves 'heart brothers'. Heart brothers in times of distress
They support each other and share their happiest moments together. The heart brothers say 'He is our father' about Prof. Öztekin Oto, to whom they owe their lives.
ERKAN DOĞAN (IZMIR / CENTRE)
Thoracic Cardiovascular Surgeon Prof. Öztekin Oto found a job in the hospital for Recep Topçu (25), whom he brought back to life with a heart transplant but wanted him to be with him at all times, and he is looking for a job for Salih Derelioğlu (20), whom he saved when he was about to die.
Recep Topçu, who was connected to life with the efforts of Prof. Öztekin Oto and found a job at the hospital, started to set an example of humanity. In his spare time, Topçu visited patients who had transplants or were waiting for transplants, where he met Salih Derelioğlu.
The two friends, whose destinies were the same, then rented a house and started to live together. Topçu and Derelioğlu have been living in their house consisting of two rooms and a living room in İnciraltı for a month. The two friends eat and drink together.
An example of humanity
Prof. Oto saved Salih Derelioğlu, who was taken to hospital in Bergama, where he came as a cotton worker last August, by transplanting the heart of a tourist who died in Muğla. Prof. Oto immediately started looking for a job for Salih, who was discharged after 8 months, had no social security and returned empty-handed from his hometown Çanakkale, where he had gone in the hope of finding a job. At every meeting he attended, Prof Oto started to say, "Let's win this friend of ours, let's find a job".
HERE IS THE PHOTO OF NEW LIFE...
Recep Topçu (25) got sick from his heart while doing his patriotic service in Izmir. One month later, his doctor placed the lucky Recep in a job. Recep is enjoying life with his heart mate Salih in memory of the old days...
Germ-free environment
Stating that Derelioğlu needs to get a job in order to sustain his life and take his medication, Prof. oto explains the following
"A successful heart transplant is not enough. Post-operation is also important. Since there are no good heart transplant centres in Çanakkale and Rize, Salih and Recep's hometowns, they need to continue their treatment in Izmir. The workplace where Salih Derelioğlu will work must be germ-free and dust-free. The patient's life after the operation should also be monitored. It would be appropriate for heart transplant patients to live close to the hospital where they had the operation. The centre that performs heart transplants all over the world monitors the patient."
Sick in the army
Recep Topçu, who came to Izmir from Rize for military service, fell ill during his boot camp. Taken to DEU Faculty of Medicine Hospital, Topçu said 'hello' to life for the second time with the heart of Saniye Bebe, who died on 23 December 1999 at the age of 25.
Recep, who needed to be examined once a month due to his treatment, decided to continue his life in Izmir. While working, Recep Topçu, who shares the same fate with him and who visits patients who are waiting for organs with the hope of living and gives them morale, met Salih Derelioğlu, who was treated last year, in this way.
He waited 12 months
The condition of Salih Derelidoğlu, who was waiting for an organ for 12 months in the hospital, was getting worse day by day. Salih Derelioğlu started to wait for an organ together with 25-year-old İskender Taş, the son of a rich family staying in the hospital. Salih Derelioğlu, who was taken to intensive care and was told that he had 'no hope of survival', was finally lucky. The heart of W. Jacobus Coppoolse, who had a cerebral haemorrhage in Muğla, was brought to Izmir by military helicopter and implanted to Salih Derelioğlu by Prof. Öztekin Oto. However, negativities did not leave Derelioğlu alone. Salih Derelioğlu, who had a lung infection after the transplant, stayed in intensive care for 53 days. He was discharged from hospital after six months of treatment.
'My name is Canan and my heart is Mustafa'
Canan Serçe, who waited for an organ for six months, was kept alive with the operation performed by Prof. Oto in 2000. The only daughter of the Serçe family, living with the heart of Mustafa Tatlı, dedicated her life to organ transplantation after the operation.
Canan Serçe, who voluntarily visits patients waiting for and receiving organ transplants, participates in promotions to increase the number of organ donations. She proudly says that she carries someone else's heart; "My name is Canan, my heart is Mustafa"
