International Success of Turkish Physician

Dokuz Eylül University (DEU) Faculty of Medicine, Department of Cardiovascular Surgery Prof. Dr. Öztekin Oto was elected as the president of the European Society of Cardiovascular and Endovascular Surgery (ESCVS).

At a press conference held at the Dean's Office of DEU Faculty of Medicine, Prof. Dr. Oto stated that the 61st annual congress of the European Society of Cardiovascular and Endovascular Surgery was held in Dubrovnik on 25 April.

Stating that he was elected as the president of ESCVS, one of the well-established organisations in Europe, Prof. Dr. Oto said, "This is the first time a Turkish doctor has been elected as the president in the field of cardiology and cardiovascular surgery. I am proud to be the first Turkish doctor to be the president of the association."

Emphasising that the point reached is encouraging for Turkish doctors, Prof Oto said:

"I have been involved in the management of various international associations for many years. I am happy to have reached this point as a result of our efforts. I believe that Turkish physicians will have a place in the management of international organisations. It is also important for heart patients in our country. We are elected to these positions with our professional achievements, original surgeries, publications, and success in the scientific meetings we organise. Our patients can apply to us with greater confidence and peace of mind."

Pointing out that as an association, they are involved in providing post-graduate education to European cardiac surgeons, Prof. Dr. Oto stated that he will have the opportunity to invite his colleagues from centres in Turkey to the courses and studies to be planned during my presidency.

Prof. Dr. Tülay Canda, Dean of DEU Faculty of Medicine, expressed her happiness for Prof. Oto's success and said that the presence of well-trained physicians in their fields is a source of pride for İzmir and DEU.
