Heart Surgery on Live Broadcast
At the 4th 'Congress on Innovations in Cardiology and Cardiovascular Surgery' organised by the Heart and Health Foundation of TURKEY this year, a session on closed heart surgery performed in a hospital in the Netherlands was broadcast to the doctors. Doctors chatted with the Turkish doctor who performed the surgery during the operation and asked questions.
The 4th Congress on Innovations in Cardiology and Cardiovascular Surgery, organised by the Turkish Heart and Health Foundation this year, started at the Sungate Port Royal Hotel in Antalya's Beldibi district. 1600 doctors attended the congress, including 200 foreign doctors from America, India, Iran, Syria and various countries of Europe. On the first day of the congress, which continues in 16 halls at the same time and will continue until 2 December, a first was performed in Turkey. A closed heart surgery performed in a hospital in the Netherlands was broadcasted to the doctors attending the session. Doctors chatted with the Turkish doctor who performed the surgery during the operation and asked questions.
Prof. Dr. Öztekin Oto, who chaired the panel and is also the chairman of the congress, said the following about the live broadcast:
"It was observed how closed surgical intervention is performed in heart rhythm disorders. The application, which is performed by entering through four small holes, was transmitted from the operating theatre of San Antonio Hospital in the Netherlands to our congress hall. The internationally renowned doctors and our Turkish panellists and the doctors attending the session asked questions. Another important aspect of this broadcast was that our colleague who performed the surgery was a Turk. Dr Alaaddin Yılmaz is a very famous doctor in the Netherlands. After the operation, he will fly to Antalya tomorrow and will give a conference. Live broadcasts are extremely useful when used as educational material. You can transfer a technique that three people can see in an operating theatre to the whole hall. Heart palpitations can now be treated with closed surgery methods."
