Great Success of Physician from Izmir

The incidence of cardiovascular diseases has increased considerably in recent years. The reason for this; As a result of the development of the medical field and technology, it is shown as the prolongation of human life span. Aortic diseases are among the most common heart diseases, especially in elderly patients.

Aortic diseases; Although it is more common in men over the age of 65 who have hypertension problems; It is considered among the diseases that seriously endanger human life. Aorta; It is the vessel that forms the source of the arteries that reach all organs from the heart. Aortic aneurysm is defined as the enlargement of the diameter of this main artery as a result of deformation and weakening of the vessel wall due to various reasons. As a result of this deformation process, which usually develops over the age of 50, the wall of the aortic vessel becomes thinner, weaker and may balloon. This problem, which is not taken under control, can cause the aortic vessel to burst, which can be life-threatening. When the enlargement of the aortic vessel exceeds 5 centimetres, active treatment methods are applied to the patient. Among these methods, endovascular treatment is the most preferred one today.

Endovascular Method in Aortic Aneurysm Treatment

Today, intensive studies on diagnosis and treatment methods are being carried out. As a result of these studies, new methods are emerging that can prevent risk factors and offer a comfortable process for the patient. In the treatment of many diseases, treatments are performed through smaller incisions as an alternative to open surgery. In the active treatment methods of aortic aneurysm, endovascular treatment method based on the discipline of intervention through the vein is applied as an alternative to open surgery.

Endovascular treatment is performed by entering the inguinal artery through minimal surgical incisions. Local anaesthesia is often sufficient during this procedure. Endovascular treatment method can also be applied comfortably at advanced ages when aortic aneurysm is accompanied by coronary heart disease, diabetes or lung disease.

Before the endovascular treatment of aortic diseases, the patient is examined with a number of examinations. Angiography and computed tomography examinations are the most important of these examinations. As a result of these examinations, it is decided whether the patient's physiological condition and aortic structure are suitable for the endovascular treatment method.

What are the Advantages of Endovascular Treatment?

Endovascular treatment method; It is a method that provides many advantages to the patient and the doctor during the operation process compared to open surgery. The advantages of this method can be listed as follows;

  • There is no need for general anaesthesia. Thus, risk factors that may be caused by anaesthesia are prevented.
  • There is no need to open large incisions.
  • The risk of blood loss is minimal.
  • The patient does not need to stay in intensive care and the hospital stay is short.
  • Postoperative recovery process is comfortable.
  • The risk of loss of the patient due to surgery is minimal.
